Integrative Mental Health

134410871Nothing seems to work.

You’ve tried therapy before, and it didn’t seem to work for very long.

No matter how hard you try, you can’t lose and keep weight off. You think, “I get so disgusted with myself.”

Headaches never cease, and you are afraid your boss will fire you. Pain persists, even though your doctor says there is no reason.

From morning till night, you feel exhausted. Then, when you lie down, your brain turns on, and you’re wide awake.

It’s time to try integrative mental health.

Integrative mental health differs from the traditional approach to therapy in that it focuses on your mind, body, and soul.

This form of therapy includes not only psychotherapy, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brain Spotting, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, but also includes lifestyle factors that affect mental wellness.

Suppose you only have psychotherapy to deal with anxiety or depression. In that case, it will be harder to have lasting change as you may neglect how an unhealthy lifestyle affects your mood.

On the other hand, if you only deal with diet and exercise but ignore how trauma and childhood experiences impact you today, then you will have a more challenging time achieving the kind of well-being and growth you want.

When you come in for your initial session, we will discuss more than just the fears, stressors, and frustrations that brought you in. We will examine your lifestyle habits, like nutrition, movement, sleep patterns, social connections, and spiritual beliefs and practices.

I may want to see what blood work you have recently had. These things can adversely affect your mental health. It can be harder to resolve the issues that brought you in without addressing them. For example, a diet high in caffeine and sugar can affect motivation, energy level, sleep quality, mood, and more.

Through Integrative Mental Health, you will learn to love your body, so it can love you back.

It’s time to take control of your health – mentally and physically.
